Pocono Mountain Area School Districts In Monroe County PA

A big chunk of what most people consider the Pocono Mountains is located in Monroe County, PA. If you are looking to move to the Poconos as your primary residence with school aged children, you most likely want to know something about the local school system.
While there are several private, and charter school options available, there are four public School Districts in Monroe County.
Pocono Mountain School District is the largest school district in NE Pennsylvania. It serves over 55,000 rural living residents and covers over 305 square miles. It is divided into an East and West side. The East side covering Jackson, Pocono, Paradise,and Barrett townships and the Borough of Mount Pocono. The West side covering Tunkhannock, Tobyhanna and Coolbaugh townships.
East Stroudsburg School District is the second largest school district in NE PA. Second only in size to Pocono Mountain School District discussed above. This rural district covers over 214 sq. miles. Divided into North and South, only the South side of the school district is in Monroe County. East Stroudsburg School District South is comprised of Price, Middle Smithfield, & Smithfield townships as well as East Stroudsburg Borough. (The North side is found in Porter and Lehman townships in Pike county).
Stroudsburg School District serves a suburban/rural area of approximately 35,000 residents over 73 square miles. It is comprised of 2 townships, Stroud and Hamilton and two Boro's, Stroudsburg and Deleware Water Gap.
Pleasant Valley School District is considered a midsized rural school district covering an area of 114 square miles and serving a population of approximately 30,000. It is located in the South West corner of Monroe County and consists of the townships of Chestnuthill, Eldred, Polk, and Ross.
